Choosing species for aquascape fish is not a difficult task because tons of references are available. For a beginner, it is best to start from local fish as it is familiar and easy to handle in a daily basis. You should consider the color and size. Some fishes have schooling behavior which means they act as a group when moving around from one place to another. This kind of species is usually small and has bright color. Medium size fish is relatively individual and often hide from the crowd. However, some of them are very confident to expose their colors.

Another important thing on aquascaping for a beginner is you cannot put the fish that will eat and fight each other. Big fish will see the small ones as their foods. On the other side, schooling fishes are fragile in the environment with aggressive fish. Therefore, just consider the species and their behavior for aquascape fish.

What kind of fish tank do you use? The aquarium is available in many sizes, designs, styles, devices, and volume. Your project is to create an aquatic environment in a closed box. It depends on how vast that world will be for the fish. The complex ecosystem needs more spaces and a bigger aquarium. Besides, you should consider the tools to support the fish tank in order to balance the oxygen and get rid of the unwanted compound. Aquascape fish is mostly vast aquarium to make enough room when swimming around from one part to another. Schooling fish need more space as they very are active. Make sure the aquarium is suitable for species you choose.
